What Your Website Should Really Be Doing for Your Business

Your Website Should Be Working for You, Not Just Sitting Pretty

Let me say something that might sting a little:
If your website just looks good but doesn’t actually
do anything… it’s not a website.
It’s a digital poster.

And while pretty design might get compliments, it won’t grow your business. A strategic website? That’s a whole different story. One that supports your sales, connects with visitors, and works even while you sleep.

My Strategy, My Story

Early in my career, I used to build websites with a focus on layout, color, and design trends. Clients loved how they looked, but I started noticing something.

They weren’t getting results.

It hit me: business owners didn’t need a beautiful brochure online. They needed a tool, a platform that worked as hard as they did. So I shifted my entire approach and started building strategic websites that focus on function first.

Now, every site I design or audit follows the same framework — one that turns your site from static to strategic.

How This Helps My Clients

I’ve seen firsthand how this shift impacts my clients, especially service providers and solopreneurs who rely on online inquiries.

One wedding professional I worked with had great traffic but very few bookings. After a quick audit, we discovered her website had no clear call to action. It looked great, but didn’t move people forward.

We clarified her messaging, simplified her navigation, added an inquiry form, and made her contact info visible throughout. In less than 30 days, her conversion rate doubled. Same traffic, better performance.

The Big Picture: Where This Fits in Your Strategy

Your website isn’t just a marketing tool. It’s a business asset.
Think of it as your
central hub, where your content lives, where leads are captured, and where your client journey starts. It should align with your visibility strategy and connect to your email, CRM, and follow-up systems.

That’s why every time I help clients map their strategy, whether in a Strategy Session or coaching, we include their website as a core pillar. Because if people are landing on your site but not taking action… something’s broken.

Key Insight:

If your website can’t convert, your marketing will always feel like a waste of time.

Stop pouring energy into Instagram, email, or ads if the site you're sending people to isn’t doing its job.

The 4 Jobs Your Website Should Be Doing

Here’s the breakdown I teach my clients:

1. Clarifier

It should clearly explain:

  • Who you help

  • What you do

  • How someone can take the next step

And it should do this in the first few seconds, no scrolling required.

2. Converter

  • Are your calls to action obvious and easy to follow?

  • Can someone inquire, buy, or book in under 30 seconds?

  • Are buttons visible and intuitive?

If your visitor has to search for the next step, they’ll leave.

3. Connector
Your website should
sound like you:
If you’re warm and conversational in person but stiff and generic online, there’s a disconnect. That gap can cost you trust and sales.

4. Central Hub
Your site should organize all your content, offers, and visibility efforts in one place.

Blog, podcast, freebies, service info, it should all point back to your site, not live scattered across the internet.

Quick Questions, Real Answers

Q: Do I need a full redesign to make my site strategic?
A: Not always. Sometimes small tweaks like clearer calls to action or updated messaging make a huge difference.

Q: What’s the number one website mistake you see?
A: Lack of clarity. Most sites assume visitors already know what you do. Spoiler: they don’t.

Q: I’m not tech-savvy. Can I still fix this?
A: Yes. Whether you DIY or hire it out, what matters is the strategy. You don’t need fancy features, just a clear, user-focused layout that supports your goals.
